Who is hiring
Oil and gas, petrochemicals, heavy industry, and the engineering, inspection, maintenance and project-management firms that exist around them. Aramco and its contractor ecosystem set the tone of the whole regional market, including its pay structures.
If your background is EPC, commissioning, process safety, piping, instrumentation or plant maintenance, this is the part of Saudi Arabia where your CV is read fastest.
Housing
Typically the best value of the three major areas. Decades of expatriate presence mean the compound stock is mature and the community networks around it are deep — often the deciding factor for families who have lived elsewhere in the Gulf.
Getting around
Distances are real: living in Khobar and working in Jubail is a long daily commute that many people nonetheless make. Establish where the site actually is, not which city the contract names.
The King Fahd Causeway to Bahrain is part of ordinary life here, and many residents treat it as a standard weekend option. Border queues on Thursday evenings are a known cost of that.
Family and schooling
Long-established international schools, several attached to the energy community, with the stability that comes from decades of operation.
