What a cover letter is for
A recruiter reads a cover letter to answer one question the CV does not: why this role, at this employer, now. Keep it to one page. Lead with the role you are applying for, prove the two or three requirements the advert stresses most with a concrete example each, and say something specific about the employer that a generic letter could not.
For Saudi employers
- Say where you are and when you can start. An employer planning a mobilisation date reads that first.
- If the role needs professional registration in Saudi Arabia, say whether you already hold it or have started the process.
- Match the advert’s own words for the skills you have. If you opened this page from a vacancy, the terms it stresses are listed beside the letter.
