Not a city in the ordinary sense, and treating it like one is the most common mistake candidates make. Most roles are on site in Tabuk province in purpose-built accommodation communities, not in an open rental market — and a significant number of jobs advertised as NEOM are corporate posts based in Riyadh.
Who is hiring
Construction and heavy civils at the top of the list, then engineering across every discipline, project controls, HSE, utilities and energy, logistics, and — increasingly — the operational and hospitality functions the completed assets need.
What daily life actually is
Accommodation is generally provided, so the housing question is different in kind rather than in degree: you are not choosing a district, you are being placed in a community. The nearest established urban centre is some distance away, and that distance — not the salary — is what people who leave early say they underestimated.
Packages reflect the location and sit at the top of the Saudi market. So does the rotation: many roles run a rotational pattern with flights out, and the shape of that rotation matters more to your life than a few thousand riyals on the base.
Family
Family status varies by role and by employer, and it is the question to settle before anything else if you have one. Some positions are single-status; some support families in the residential communities; the answer is not uniform across the programme.
Before you accept
- Site-based or Riyadh corporate? Get it in writing.
- What is the rotation — weeks on, days off, and who pays for the flights?
- Single status or family status, and if family, what schooling exists?
- What does a normal week look like on site: hours, facilities, connectivity, and how people actually travel out.
