Site or office, and for how long

Construction pay in Saudi Arabia is dominated by two things the advert often does not say: whether the role is site-based, and which phase of the programme it belongs to.

A site-based role on a remote giga-project usually carries provided accommodation, a rotation, and flights — which together can be worth more than the difference in base salary between it and an equivalent office job in Riyadh. It also has an end date attached to a phase.

An office-based role with a developer or consultancy pays a lower headline figure into an ordinary Riyadh or Jeddah life, and tends to outlast any single package.

What to establish

  • Is the employer the developer, the main contractor, a subcontractor, or a manpower supplier? Each is a different level of the same pay pyramid, and a different answer to "what happens when the package finishes".
  • What is the rotation, and who pays for the flights?
  • Is accommodation provided, shared, and where?

Advertised pay is scarce in this sector. Most construction adverts on this site state no salary at all, which is why the ranges here lean on desk research more than in sectors that habitually disclose.

How to read these figures

  • Observed ranges are computed from salaries stated in live listings on this site. They skew toward roles whose employers publish pay, which is a minority.
  • Researched ranges come from desk research and are estimates, not measurements.
  • Figures are gross monthly base pay. They exclude housing and transport allowances, which in Saudi Arabia commonly add 25–35% to base.
  • There is no personal income tax on salary in Saudi Arabia, so gross is much closer to net than in most European markets.
