The package is the offer
Teaching is the sector where the headline salary tells you least. A standard international-school package is built from accommodation, annual flights, medical cover and — decisively for teachers with children — free or heavily discounted places at the school. That last item is worth more than most salary differences on offer, and whether it extends to one child or three is a question to settle in writing.
The tiers are real
Established international schools with a recognised curriculum and accreditation pay well and recruit internationally, often through the standard January hiring round. Below them the market thins quickly, and terms vary widely enough that the contract deserves proper reading.
Higher education — the universities and the technical colleges — is a separate market again, with its own grades, and it values published research and doctoral qualifications in a way the school sector does not.
Worth asking
Whether the school is accredited and by whom, how many children's places are included, whether accommodation is provided or an allowance, and what the actual teaching load and class size are.
How to read these figures
- Observed ranges are computed from salaries stated in live listings on this site. They skew toward roles whose employers publish pay, which is a minority.
- Researched ranges come from desk research and are estimates, not measurements.
- Figures are gross monthly base pay. They exclude housing and transport allowances, which in Saudi Arabia commonly add 25–35% to base.
- There is no personal income tax on salary in Saudi Arabia, so gross is much closer to net than in most European markets.
