The oldest international market here
Energy is where Saudi Arabia has hired internationally the longest, and the pay structures show it: the bands are well established, the recruitment routes are mature, and the Eastern Province community around them goes back decades.
Operator or contractor
The single biggest determinant of what you are paid is which side of that line you are on. Operator roles — Aramco, SABIC, the large petrochemical joint ventures — carry structured grades, strong benefits and long horizons. Contractor, service-company and manpower-supply roles around them are priced against the contract and end with it, with the accommodation and rotation arrangements that implies.
Specialist disciplines in short supply — turnaround and shutdown, process safety, rotating equipment, subsea, commissioning — command premiums that the general bands do not capture.
Where
Dhahran, Dammam, Khobar, Jubail and Yanbu, with offshore and remote-field postings on rotation. Riyadh holds the corporate and commercial functions rather than the technical ones.
Worth asking
Who holds your iqama, what the rotation is, whether the posting is onshore or offshore, and — for a turnaround role — what happens when it finishes.
How to read these figures
- Observed ranges are computed from salaries stated in live listings on this site. They skew toward roles whose employers publish pay, which is a minority.
- Researched ranges come from desk research and are estimates, not measurements.
- Figures are gross monthly base pay. They exclude housing and transport allowances, which in Saudi Arabia commonly add 25–35% to base.
- There is no personal income tax on salary in Saudi Arabia, so gross is much closer to net than in most European markets.
