What actually moves the number
Discipline and project phase move engineering pay here more than seniority does. A commissioning engineer on a live start-up, a piping engineer on an EPC package and a design engineer in a Riyadh consultancy can share a title and a decade of experience and be paid very differently.
Client-side versus contractor is the other divide. Roles with the developer or the operator — a giga-project entity, an operator's projects division — generally pay better and last longer than the contractor and manpower-supply roles around them, which are priced against the package and end with it.
Watch for manpower-supply contracts: your iqama is held by the agency rather than the company whose site you work on, and what happens between assignments is the question to ask before signing.
Where the work is
The Eastern Province for energy and heavy industry, Riyadh for consultancy, infrastructure and giga-project headquarters, and the site postings — NEOM, Red Sea, Qiddiya, Diriyah — for construction-phase work. A role advertised under a giga-project's name may be based in Riyadh; establish which before you plan a life around it.
